The 171st winner of the St Leger, held on Saturday 13th September 1947 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Sayajirao, a bay colt by Nearco out of Rosy Legend, owned by HH Maharaja of Baroda. A field of 11 runners contested the race which was worth £9,750. (Equivalent to £375,400 in 2017)
